Every module presented as a technical data sheet — course code, duration, crew size, prerequisites, and unit of competency numbers.
Underground Induction — Hard Rock
Full statutory induction covering tag-board procedures, self-rescuer fitment, refuge chamber operation, and emergency egress from decline. Delivered in purpose-built mock decline tunnel.
Confined Space Rescue Operations
Entry permit systems, atmospheric monitoring, rescue team coordination, and casualty extraction from simulated confined space scenarios including stope entries and boxholes.
Gas Detection & Atmospheric Monitoring
Multi-gas detector calibration and operation, threshold limit values for CO/NO2/H2S, re-entry procedures after blasting, and diesel particulate matter monitoring in development headings.
Explosives Awareness — Non-Blasting Personnel
Statutory awareness for non-shotfirers. Covers exclusion zones, misfire identification, surface storage and transport, and interaction protocols with shotfiring crews during production blasts.
Jumbo & Long-Hole Drill Operation
Hands-on development and production drilling on Sandvik DD321 and Epiroc Boomer simulators before underground practical. Covers drill pattern layout, steel management, and shift handover documentation.
Open Cut Induction — Blast Crew
Pit entry and egress protocols, haul road interaction rules, blast exclusion zone management, and emergency assembly point procedures for open cut operations.
Heavy Mobile Equipment — Pre-Start & Interaction
Pre-start inspection routines for 785/793-class haul trucks, graders, and dozers. Interaction safety — blind spots, passing rules, and light vehicle protocols on active haul roads.
Drill & Blast — Shotfirer Refresher
Pattern design verification, initiation system checks, misfire protocol refresher, and post-blast fume management. Satisfies WA Mines Safety Regulations annual currency requirement.
Processing Plant Induction
Crush circuit, milling, leach, and CIP/CIL circuit awareness. Cyanide management awareness, ICMC compliance, and emergency isolation procedures for chemical plant environments.
LOTO — Lockout/Tagout Procedures
Energy isolation procedures for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic energy sources. Isolation register management, multi-lock protocols, and verification testing on simulated plant equipment.
Emergency Response — Mine Rescue Awareness
Incident command structure, triage and first aid in remote environments, smoke and fire response in underground workings, and coordination with statutory mine rescue brigades.
Warden & Evacuation Coordinator
Statutory warden duties, assembly area management, head-count and roll-call procedures, communications with mine control during emergency, and post-incident documentation.
Sites that passed the audit.
Crews that came home.
Real outcomes from site safety managers who needed training that survives a regulator's scrutiny.

“Shaft's decline tunnel simulation saved us three weeks of onboarding time for a 48-person crew swing. Every statutory requirement ticked before they tagged on underground.”
Brendan Kowalczyk
Site Safety Manager
Northern Star Resources — Thunderbox
“DMIRS audit came through six weeks after induction. Zero non-conformances. The unit of competency documentation Shaft provides is exactly what regulators want to see.”

Tracey Nguyen
Health & Safety Coordinator
Thiess Group — Bowen Basin
“Gas detection walkthroughs in the simulated heading gave our new graduates actual hands-on reps before underground exposure. Confidence was completely different on their first shift.”

Dale Marchetti
Training & Competency Lead
Evolution Mining — Cowal
“We run four swing changes a year across two sites. Shaft's on-site delivery option means we don't have to fly 120 people to Perth — that alone pays for the program.”

Sandra Okafor
HR & Workforce Manager
Perenti Global — Agnew
